Looking for flats that actually fit wide feet? Real Simple asked orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Dr. Graeme Matthewson what to look for.

Dr. Matthewson’s Take

Dr. Matthewson explained that fit for a wide foot comes down to more than sizing up. Your toes need space through the forefoot and toe box, which matters even more with flats because you usually can’t adjust them once they’re on.

His pick was the Phoenix Knit Flat, thanks to its minimalist ballet style, naturally wide toe box, and stretchy knit upper.

“A wide foot doesn’t just need a bigger shoe.”
